POMONA – Ganesha High varsity football players anticipate the opening game of the season against Sierra Vista High at 7 P.M. on Friday, August 17th at McCracken Stadium, our home field.
After weeks of conditioning and practice over the summer, players will finally have the opportunity to show off their athleticism. Exuberant cheers will roar from the stands, full of Giant pride when the team takes the field.
As game day approaches, a mix of emotions begin to reign over the players. It can be nerve-wracking, yet full of excitement. Jesse Carmona, freshman quarterback, says, “I’m not nervous right now. Maybe during the first couple of plays I’ll feel nervous, but I’m used to competing.”
Hopefully Carmona’s and the rest of the team’s nerves are spared on Friday night.
Under the stadium lights, their performance will represent the strength of their fellow Giants. This could be a heavy expectation to carry, but Zaquand Irby, senior running-back, says he feels “just a little” pressure. It’s fair to say he does not feel worried.
With optimism at heart, team members deem the game will be a success — showing what Ganesha football is all about.
